Prior to founding Upright Position Communications in 2012, Paul headed public relations for Splunk, where he led communications around one of this decade’s most successful IPOs. Before Splunk, Paul managed global public relations at Visa Inc. with a focus on the company’s travel and tourism business.
While at Visa, Paul founded Visa’s inaugural International Tourism Conference at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, sat on President Obama’s Travel and Tourism Advisory Board and worked on their IPO.
Prior to moving to the Bay Area, Paul lived in Singapore for 12 years, where he headed Visa’s public relations operations for South and Southeast Asia. While in Singapore, Paul spent six years at one of Singapore’s premier public relations firms, Baldwin Boyle Shand (BBS).
Paul Sytsma leads Corporate Marketing at Virta Health, the first clinically-proven treatment to reverse type 2 diabetes without medications or surgery.
He joined Virta in 2016 as the first marketing hire and was responsible for the public launch of the company. In his current role Paul focuses on communications, public relations and corporate brand, aiming to drive awareness of Virta’s groundbreaking approach to diabetes care. Previously, Paul served as Principal at Cunningham Collective, a marketing consulting firm that provides companies expertise in positioning, branding, communications, and go to market strategies. There he led marketing engagements for both B2B and B2C companies in both startups and multibillion dollar companies, while also advising clients on marketing analytics.
Prior to Cunningham Collective, Paul led business planning and financial analysis at Belcampo Meat Company, a vertically-integrated business novel to the food industry, helping capitalize and launch the company in California. He has also led business intelligence at Flock (social web-browser acquired by Zynga) and worked in product marketing at VMware.
